2003
- Proposal to Diocese of Raleigh for support and
backing of a CYO-based athletic association.
- Diocese of Raleigh approved endeavor based on the
following:
― The
Diocese of Raleigh, parishes and schools would not be fiscally/legally
responsible for Parish Athletics.
― A "safe environment" policy must be
adhered to.
― Athletic
programs must enhance the vision of a comprehensive Youth Ministry.
- Parish Athletics accepts conditions and pledges to
ensure that our intentions are good, our children are safe and that we
are an asset to the Youth Ministry.
- Terry Jackson appointed by the Diocese as the
liaison to Parish Athletics.
- Parish Athletics, a 501(c)3 non-profit
corporation, was established to provide parish sports leagues,
tournaments and summer camps.
- St. Mary Magdalene parish supports Parish
Athletics and agrees to provide athletic field and future gym.
- St. Andrew the Apostle and St. Michael the
Archangel parishes give support to Parish Athletics.
2004
- Parish Soccer League was organized and first
spring season was played with kids from St. Andrew, St. Mary Magdalene
and St. Michael parishes.
2005
- Programs added include: Basketball, Cheerleading,
Baseball, Summer Camp, and Friday Nite Out!
- St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School Booster Club
became STMM Parish Booster Club raising money for both church and
school sports programs.
- St. Michael the Archangel started campaign to
build athletic fields.
2006
- Programs added include: Volleyball
- Parish Athletics will launch athletic programs and
camps to other Diocese of Raleigh parishes.
